A watch box is a gift that gets used every day and lasts for years. The good news is that you do not need to know every detail of someone's collection to choose well. A few quick questions will get you most of the way.
How many watches do they own?
Count what you have seen them wear, then add two. Collections tend to grow, and a box with a couple of spare cushions is an invitation to add to it.
- A first good watch: a single watch box or a compact 3 or 4 watch box.
- A small rotation: 5 to 8 watches.
- A serious collector: 10 or more, or a box with a drawer.
Do they like to see their watches?
A glass display lid shows the collection off and makes choosing a watch each morning easy. A closed lid keeps dust and sunlight out and suits a more private person, or a box that will sit in a bright room.
Watches only, or jewellery too?
If they also wear cufflinks or rings, a combined box keeps everything in one place. Our Walnut display and jewellery boxes have room below the watches, and the Ginko Grey and Carbon Fibre 4 watch boxes include a section for cufflinks.
Match the finish to their style
- Classic: walnut, cherry or ebony with velvet linings.
- Modern: black, piano black or carbon fibre.
- A statement: golden oak, burl or zebra wood.
Gifts for every budget
- Under $100: a leather travel case, such as the Green Leather Grey Velvet Travel Case, or a cufflink box.
- Around $130 to $180: a leather valet tray, which gives keys, wallet and watch a home by the door.
- The big gift: a display and jewellery box, or a watch winder for someone who owns automatic watches.
